Onyx – Ruggedised Miniature Edge Computing Platform

Onyx is a rugged, miniature, low-power edge computing platform purpose-built for real-time video streaming, recording, and AI processing in demanding environments. Designed for field deployment, it combines multi-camera capture, hardware encoding, and a powerful onboard AI accelerator inside a compact IP67 enclosure.

Whether installed on vehicles, infrastructure, drones, or remote security systems, Onyx delivers reliable video intelligence at the edge, without the need for a bulky PC or constant cloud connectivity.

Onyx captures video from dual USB cameras and audio from dual microphones, transferring raw streams directly to its onboard Hailo-8 AI accelerator (up to 26 TOPS) for high-accuracy detection, tracking, and custom AI processing. Simultaneously, the system performs H.265 encoding and generates dual Transport Streams (TS) containing synchronized audio and video.

Low-latency streaming is supported via UDP, RTP, and RTSP, enabling unicast, multicast, or broadcast distribution over Gigabit Ethernet or cellular networks.

Onyx records dual TS streams locally on 512GB eMMC storage. Files can be downloaded via Ethernet or USB — where the device can appear as a mass storage device when connected to a PC. This makes field data retrieval fast and simple.

The system integrates the interfaces required for mobile and fixed installations:

• 12V power input

Control and integration are handled through a web browser interface and software API over GbE, allowing easy system management and AI workflow control.

Onyx is housed in an IP67-rated enclosure with passive cooling, Binder connectors, and SMA antenna connectors. The SIM card is accessible by opening the case, and the compact form factor (76.4 × 40 × 40 mm) allows installation where space is limited.
